my haiti trip: the brain-dump.
I’ve been sitting on this post for quite some time. I’ve actually been sitting on it since the last time I posted on my tumblr, which is right below.
When I returned home from Haiti, everyone asked me how my trip was. And I gave everyone the same answer before hesitating to dive into explanation: “It was good. But it was hard.”
I went to Haiti for work. It was actually an...

happy mother's day
I’m thinking of several people today.
My own mother, who’s currently separated from me by an entire Pacific Ocean
My sister, who’s separated from her son by a Pacific Ocean
Both grandmothers on my dad and mom’s side
Those who have lost and mourn the loss of their mothers
Those who are new mothers
Those whose mothers have abandoned them
Women who play the role of...

future-pooping.
Hubs has gotten used to my blogging hobby, but, like most things I enjoy, it comes with a price. A price of getting made fun of.
Several weeks ago, this conversation transpired between me & Hubs…
Me (sitting on the couch and working on my laptop): “I’m working on my blog.”
Hubs: “So you’re blogging?”
Me: “Well, yes. For the future. I’m...

thank you, YA blogger friends.
(This one’s kind of a long one, sorry)
I’ve been meaning to do this for approximately 20 #FFs, but never got around to it. Now that I’ve actually got a few breathing moments to do another personal post, I figured now’s as good a time as any.
Oh, and hey look, it happens to coincide with Christmas Eve. ;)
This year has been an interesting year in the world of blogging. A...

twitter thoughts: vol. 2
So Volume 2 came to me a little sooner than I thought it would. Luckily, someone I follow tweeted something recently, giving me an excellent prompt (which just goes to show you how lazy I can be):
Ahem. *cracks knuckles*
Before I lay my thoughts down in response to this question, a little disclaimer. I’m not here to point fingers at this particular Twitter user. None of this is a...
twitter thoughts: vol. 1
I’ve finally had some time to sit down and write down a few thoughts about my favorite social network, Twitter. And if you’re stopping in for a visit to read this post, it may very well be by way of Twitter. Because it was SO CLEVER for me to tweet out the link, yeah? I know, I’m a genius.
First, a little bit of history between me and Twitter. I’ve been tweeting for a...

what i want to be when i grow up.
When I was growing up, I went through phases of what kind of person I wanted to be, what kind of career I wanted to have. I was blessed to have parents who would support me no matter how crazy the idea. Below is a list of jobs I knew, at some point or another, I’d have as a grownup.
Job title: Astronaut
Age: 7
I loved looking at stars, and looking at pictures of our planets. You’d...

i got a book journal.
The decision was a ridiculously nit-picky ordeal. I looked online. I looked in bookstores. I looked in my Hallmark store. I looked in Walmart. I looked EVERYWHERE. At first I figured I’d want an “official” type of book journal. So, I looked at the Moleskine Passions Book Journal. Then I saw that the Moleskine book journal allowed for 4-5 books per lettered tab.
Ahem, what?

brand love. just a few.
I’m not exactly the biggest brand-snob, but here are a few that I’ve known to trust over the years.
I remember the smell as a little one after taking a bath, that slightly sweet, clean smell of Dove. Fast forward 20 years, and I’m still slathering it on in the shower. I’ve since graduated to the bodywash, but when my parents came to visit and stayed at our place, I was...
"the slap" sighting.
If you read one of my previous posts about 10 Things I Will Never Tire of Reading in YA, you know #7 - The Slap.
I’m going to start documenting these appearances as I find them in the wild from here on out. We’ll begin with Exhibit A, below (middle of pic).
I’ll rate this slap a 4 out of 5. This dude was in the same car that killed her brother. There’s INTENSITY all...
why i love my MIL.
My MIL’s name is Becky, short for Rebecca. I love her dearly for many reasons. Today’s reason:
Because I can send her an e-mail with “You’re in my book!” in the subject line, and attach this picture.
And she’ll respond with this:
That sounds like me…Shopping with not a care in the world! How weird is that? My name is never used in a good way in...

my fascination with names.
So, I like names.
And not just the exotic ones. I like the ones that roll off the tongue with a sort of flourish, the ones that sound just as melodic whether they’re whispered or screamed out loud.
When I wrote stories as a kid, it took me forever to come up with names for my characters. They had to be perfect. I’d spend hours and hours sounding out names, making sure that these...
10 things i will never tire of reading in YA.
So, I’ve been trying to read a ridiculous amount of books (really, I should be reading one right now) in an effort to have a well-rounded group of books to rank in the top 100 YA poll that Adele is currently running on her blog. Whew, that is one long run-on sentence. And because I make a hobby out of putting unnecessary pressures on myself (it’s SO MUCH FUN), I’ve been stopping...

i married a geeky boy.
So…I read an article that hit top 10 on Digg today that caught my eye, pertaining to geeky spouses and the traits that make them annoying at times. (Please stop judging me, I click on Digg every once in awhile)
The article can be found here.
So I start reading off these so-called Annoying Habits of a Geeky Spouse to Hubs. Of all habits, there were two of them that actually applied to him:...

10) There are not enough words in the English language to describe 40,000 combinations of delicacies and food groups.
9) I don’t drink near enough water as I should.

7) You can be named after a pretty flower, and still...
scribblings of a junior high writer.
As a part of doing some research for an upcoming project, I was rifling through my Closet Full O’ Crap (as Hubs would prefer to call it) this evening in our guest bedroom. Every piece of paper, roll of gift wrap, book, brochure, newspaper clipping, and shoebox in that tiny cramped space belongs to yours truly. It’s stuff I’ve collected since I was in junior high, and although it...

things i may try doing in 2010.
1. Listen more.
I mean, really listen. And try to remember things. You know, simple things like, when someone asks me a question, I will be listening and then have an answer ready within 10 seconds instead of blankly staring — those were the olden days (aka 2009). I also plan to listen to important things, such as when someone tells me they’re allergic to mangoes. Then I won’t...

Convo #238 Between Hubs & Wife
Hubs (laying in a position where he couldn’t see his shirt): “Dang. Is this food I have on my shirt?” (picks at said food on shirt)
Me (glancing up from laptop and looking him over): “Yes. That’s sloppy joe sauce.”
(LATER)
Hubs: “Hey! I just found toothpaste in the bed.”
Me: “Oh yeah, that’s from when I put some on that zit on my face...

Txts btwn Hubs & Wife.
Wife (mood: sullen and whiny) — [Person in Building] said I looked cute today. [Client] said I looked pretty. Yet nothing from my husband.
Hubs (mood: defensive) — Hey, I thought you looked cuter Saturday!
Wife (still sullen, now smart-alecky) — Cute comments expire after 24 hours and need to be re-administered daily.
Hubs — It didn’t say the recommended dosage on...
